A stomach bug has forced World No. 4 Rafael Nadal to pull out of the singles clash against India for the opening match of Davis Cup World Group Play-off on Friday. Left-handed Feliciano Lopez will now play his singles rubber for Spain and will face Ramkumar Ramanathan.

People who have bought tickets in anticipation of watching Rafael Nadal play in the opening match of the Davis Cup World Group Play-off in the RK Khanna Tennis Complex, Delhi, will be disappointed to know that the Spaniard has opted out of the match due to a stomach bug. The singles rubber between India and Spain that he was scheduled to play will now be played between Ramkumar Ramanathan and Feliciano Lopez.

But there is still hope for the fans to watch their favourite player in action if Nadal can recover by Sunday, to play the reverse singles against Saketh Myneni. David Ferrer is currently scheduled to face Myneni in the second singles rubber.

India and Spain have faced each other three times in the history of Davis Cup with the Spaniards leading the head-to-head record 2-1.
