Leander Paes and Martina Hingis are through to the mixed doubles quarter-finals of the Australian Open after beating Casey Dellacqua and Matt Reid 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal will take on Milos Raonic after beating Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the fourth round.

Hingis and Paes broke the local pair’s service game twice in the opening set to win 6-2. The second set was closely contested before the Indo-Swiss pair went up a break at 5-3 and sealed it 6-3.

The duo will now face the winner of Samantha Stosur/ Sam Groth and Darija Jurak/Jean-Julien Rojer in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

In men’s singles, Nadal did not have too much trouble in brushing aside Frenchman Monfils. The Spaniard won the opening two sets with ease before the sixth-seeded Monfils put up a fight. Monfils won the third set after breaking Nadal for the first time in the match to breathe some life into the contest.

However, Nadal responded swiftly in the fourth to close out the match 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The former world No 1 will next play third seed Raonic who beat Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
