The second day of the ongoing French Open saw some of the biggest names take centre stage at Roland Garros in Paris. However, we also saw some of the biggest names being toyed around with, thanks to some exquisite shot making, including Novak Djokovic. Here are the top three shots of the day 2.
3. Garbine Muguruza shows Francesca Schiavone her class
The first round women’s singles matchup between Spaniard Garbine Muguruza and Francesca Schiavone was a clash between two former Champions - the former the defending champion while the latter had won the crown in 2010. Schiavone was on serve and trailing 1-3 in the first set with the score at 40-40, when the pair got involved in a long rally, wherein the Italian moved the Spaniard to all parts of the court. But just when Schiavone thought that she had done enough to win the point, Muguruza came up with a perfect lob to outdo her opponent.
2. Ryan Harrison can play ground shots too!
Although American Ryan Harrison is known for his vicious serve owing to his towering height, on Monday he showed Slovenian-born Brit Aljaž Bedene, that he can retrieve shots just as well. Bedene was serving at 30-30 in the second game of the first set and after exchanging a few shots from the baseline Bedene decided to draw Harrison forward to the net with a drop shot. But to his credit, the American was quick on his feet and managed to return the favor with a drop shot of his own. The Brit then decided to change the angle of the ball with a crosscourt drop that send Harrison scampering across the net. But the American had the last laugh as he finished off the rally with a winner straight down the line.
1.Marcel Granollers leaves Djokovic smiling at his brilliance
Novak Djokovic may be a former World no. 1 and the defending French Open champion but that did not stop Marcel Granollers from displaying his brilliance against him. Djokovic was serving in the third set with a 2-1, 30-15 lead after having won the first two sets. In a fierce rally, the Serbian pushed the Spaniard to the back of the court, before drawing him forward with a spinning drop shot. However, Granollers had the perfect response to that as well, as he came up with a winner that spun around the net that left even Djokovic stranded and smiling.
In fact, Djokovic appreciated the shot so much that he even walked up to his opponent at the net and gave him a high-5 for it.
