French Open | Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka qualify for round 2

Defending champion Nadal gave no chance to his opponent from Germany in his opening encounter at the Roland Garos on Monday. The 11-time French Open champion Nadal eased into the second round with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. In the second round of the tournament, he will meet world number 114 Yannick Maden.

“It’s always amazing to play here, the new Chatrier is very nice. It’s been an important place in my career. I played a good tournament in Rome which was very important for my confidence. Now we’ll see,” Nadal told after the match, reported Scroll.

World No.1, Djokovic also started his campaign on a great note as he managed to win against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to qualify for the second round of the Grand Slam. He won his first game  6-4, 6-2, 6-2 and will face Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen in round two.

“I was very solid. I’m happy with my game today. It’s a long tournament... But I just want to concentrate on my next match,” said top seed Djokovic.

Stan Wawrinka, who had won Grand Slam thrice in his tennis career, also qualified for round two in the ongoing competition. He got the better of Jozef Kovalik from Slovakia in his first game of the French Open in four sets. After the 6-1, 6-7 (3/7), 6-2, 6-3 victory in the first round, Wawrinka will now take on Cristian Garin from Chile in the second round.

In other matches of the day, Australian Alex De Minaur, Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero and Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France also registered victories against their respective opponents.
