Sumit Nagal loses Banja Luka Challenger final in straight sets

22-year-old sixth seed Sumit Nagal suffered a defeat to Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the final of the €46,600 Challenger tennis tournament in Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Nagal, who hadn't dropped a single set in the tournament, suffered a straight-sets defeat against the Dutchman.

Nagal reached the finals of the tournament smoothly without dropping any set. Ranked 174th (before the finals), which is his career-best, Nagal faced Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor, ranked 187 (before the finals). Seventh seed Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor decisively put an end to the aspirations of sixth seed Sumit Nagal with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the final of the €46,600 Challenger tennis tournament in Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina, on Sunday.

The defeat apart, it was a breakthrough performance for Sumit, who rose to fame after his famous grand-slam debut at the US Open against Roger Federer last month. He is supported by Virat Kohli Foundation and has achieved five semifinal appearances in Challengers this season.

Sumit who had won his maiden Challenger in Bengaluru in 2017, collected 48 ATP points and € 3,650, after his recent call for sponsorship and support to stay afloat and participate in future tournaments, these will be welcomed with open arms. The champion Tallon Greikspoor pocketed 80 ATP points and € 6,190.
