Rio Olympics will be my last, says Yogeshwar Dutt
Olympic medallist wrestler, Yogeshwar Dutt has announced that the Rio Olympics next year will be his last and that he will leave no stone unturned in his quest for a gold medal finish.
Dealing with an injury prone and ageing body, the 32-year-old Olympics bronze medallist, on Tuesday, said, "Rio will be my last Olympics and I am extremely keen to sign off with a medal. I am all focussed on my preparations and aiming for gold".
Dutt remarked that he would not necessarily retire after the Olympic Games, leaving the possibility that the wrestler will take part in the Asian and Commonwealth Games in 2018 if his body permits. "I would not be retiring after the Olympics. Fitness permitting, I would still like to represent India in the Asian and Commonwealth Games. But as far as Olympics are concerned, Rio would definitely be my last," clarified Dutt, who will be turning 33 on November 2.
Dutt will also be part of the Pro Wrestling League scheduled to begin on November 8th and staged across six cities, after which he will be heading abroad for two months to either the USA or Russia to train and prepare himself before the next Olympic qualifiers in March. The Asian Olympic qualifiers are scheduled from March 18 to 20 next year in Astana, Kazakhstan.
At the World Wrestling Championships last month in Las Vegas, USA, Dutt was forced to withdraw because he was deemed unfit, which he proclaimed was a massive disappointment. "I was completely heart broken and very disappointed, and more so because I knew I had a great chance of qualifying for next year's Olympics during the World Championship as I was very well prepared. But doctors advised me not to take part and I had to listen to them in order to save my body from further damage," recollected the wrestler.
