The Wrestling Federation of India is learnt to have announced the name of Praveen Rana as the replacement for Narsingh Yadav in the 74kg freestyle category at the Rio Games. Rana has pipped Sushil Kumar, who had fought a lengthy battle for the spot before Narsingh was caught in the doping scandal.

It appears the Narsingh saga is nearing a close after the WFI is known to have zeroed in on wrestler Praveen Rana as India's entry in the 74kg category, reported ToI. The announcement, yet to be confirmed officially, would spell the end of a long battle.

Narsingh and Sushil Kumar had been involved in a lengthy court battle over the spot before the WFI had finalized the former's name for the Games. But things took an ugly turn after Narsingh tested positive for banned substances and only got uglier as the wrestler alleged that his food has been tampered with steroids by people who were sabotaging his Olympic bid.

Praveen Rana, though not in the illustrious company of the other two, had memorably won the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament in USA in 2014.
