Haryana sports minister Anil Vij has dismissed Sakshi Malik’s claim that the Haryana government is yet to fulfill their promise of paying her cash rewards and incentives amounting to Rs 3.5 crore after the Rio Olympics. Vij felt that some people might have “prevailed upon” her to tweet that.

On Monday, Sakshi Malik took to Twitter to reveal that she is yet to receive the cash award promised to her by the Haryana government after her podium finish at the Rio Games.

"Medal ka vada mainepurakiya, Haryana sarkar apna vada kab pura karegi? (I fulfilled my promise of winning an Olympic medal for the country, when will Haryana government fulfill its promise?)," tweeted Sakshi.

She went on to ask whether the announcements were made only for the media.

However, Haryana’s sports minister Anil Vij has now dismissed these claims made by Malik. Vij, further went on to claim that a cash reward of Rs. 2.5 crore has already been given to her, while her 'unique' job request is being processed.

He said, “We gave a cheque of Rs 2.5 crore the day she landed in India (after the Olympics event).”

Speaking to PTI, Vij said, “Regarding the issue of her job, she had a unique demand. She had sought a job at Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak. But it takes time to complete the whole process. We have taken all the approvals and MDU has also framed rules and she will be appointed Director (Sports) at MDU.”

Finally, Vij believes that some people might have "prevailed upon" Malik to tweet what she did.
