Haryana women clinch seven gold medals in Junior National Wrestling Championships

Anju (53kg), Priyanka (57kg), Anjali (59kg), Tina (65kg), Sonika Hooda (68kg), Nisha (72kg) and Karuna (76kg) from the state of Haryana won gold at the ongoing Junior National Championships. Uttar Pradesh had two gold medalists - Neelam (50kg) and Aarju Tomar (55kg) in the light-weight category.

The Haryana women’s wrestling team once again turned out to be the standout performer at the recently concluded Junior National Wrestling Championships as seven of their wrestlers bagged gold medals in Surat on Sunday. 

Anju (53kg), Priyanka (57kg), Anjali (59kg), Tina (65kg), Sonika Hooda (68kg), Nisha (72kg) and Karuna (76kg) from the state of Haryana were crowned winners in their respective categories over the weekend. There were a total of 10 weight categories to compete in and the Haryana team managed to come out on top in seven of them. 

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh also had two gold medalists in the form of light-weight wrestlers -  Neelam (50kg) and Aarju Tomar (55kg). Lastly, Madhya Pradesh wrestler Apoorva won in the 62kg category.

In the team championship, Haryana stood first with 233 points, followed by Uttar Pradesh (161 points) and Maharashtra (96 points).
