Indian wrestler Ravinder has qualified for the semi-finals in the 61 kg weight category at the ongoing Wrestling Under-23 World Championships being held in Budapest. Ravinder has beaten Hungary’s Marcell Budai Kovacs and Dinislam Takhtarov to make his way into the top four round of the competition.

Ravinder was the star performer for India at the ongoing Wrestling Under-23 World Championship in Budapest on Tuesday. He has now qualified for the semi-finals of the championship by scripting back-to-back convincing wins.

In his opening bout, the Indian wrestler dominated Hungary’s Marcell Budai Kovacs. He got the better of the Hungarian by 12-1 and started off on a great note in the junior global event.

The 22-year-old from Jhajjar, then, went on to win the bout against Russian National Freestyle Wrestling Championships bronze medallist Dinislam Takhtarov. An 11-0 win against the Russian helped the Indian grappler to qualify for the semis.

Earlier on Tuesday, another Indian wrestler Naveen went down fighting against Mongolia’s Temuulen Enkhtuya in the 70 kg weight category. Naveen was beaten 8-6 in the repechage bout by the Mongolian and had to bow out of the world event.

In the 92 kg category, India’s top junior wrestler Viky lost to Switzerland’s Samuel Scherrer 7-1 in the opening bout and crashed out of the tournament. Gaurav Baliyan started well with a win against Oleksandr Vyshniak of Ukraine in the qualifiers of the 74 kg event but lost to Russia’s Razambek Zhamalov.

Sanjeet also lost against a Russian Azamat Zakuev 0-6 in the qualifying bout in 86kg while Aryan Pratap, in 125 kg bout, lost 3-4 against Hovhannes Maghakyan of Armenia. On the other hand, Veer Dev Gulia is still in contention of a bronze medal in the 79 kg weight category.
