CWG 2018 | Boxer Manish Kaushik settles for a Silver medal in the Men's 60 kg category

Indian boxer Manish Kaushik won the Silver medal in the Men's 60 kg category to secure India’s fourth medal in boxing as he lost to local boy Harry Garside in the by a narrow decision of 3-2. Mary Kom, Gaurav Solanki, and Amit Panghal were the other three medal recipients for the country today.

At just 22, Kaushik still has a long way to go as far as his boxing career is concerned. Having won the National Boxing tournament in the Men’s 60 kg category, the lad from Haryana fought his way to Silver at the 2018 Gold Coast CWG on his debut.

Kaushik put in a valiant display as he went up against local favorite Harry Garside in the final of the Men’s 60 kg category. The Indian boxer won the first round of the bout only for Garside to come back strongly to go 3-1 up. Kaushik won the last round, but that was not enough for him to get Gold as Garside emerged victorious. The match ended with the scorecard reading 29-28, 27-30, 27-30, 28-29, 29-28.

Kaushik became the fourth Indian boxer today to bag a medal for what continues to be an impressive outing for the entire Indian contingent in Australia. Legendary Indian boxer, Mary Kom bagged the first medal of the day with a Gold on her CWG debut, followed by Gaurav Solanki’s Gold and Amit Panghal’ Silver respectively. Kaushik’s win took India’s overall medal tally to 47 at the 2018 Gold Coast CWG.
