Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli was awarded the Polly Umrigar 'Cricketer of the Year' award for the year 2015. He will receive the award at the BCCI annual awards function on January 5.

Kohli has had a mixed 2015 – he assumed captaincy in the middle of the Australia series on January 6th after M S Dhoni decided to hang his boots all of a sudden and smashed a century in his debut Test as captain, becoming the first Indian to achieve the feat. He then took India to their first Test series victory in Sri Lanka after 22 years and led the side to a 3-0 rout of the No. 1 ranked South African side at home.

However, 2015 also was the year when he recorded the worst ODI average of his career, barring 2008 when he debuted and played only five matches. His Test record was slightly better although he recorded his second worst year after 2011.

Syed Kirmani has been awarded the Col C.K. Nayudu award for life-time achievement. In the domestic circuit, Robin Uthappa bagged the award for highest run scorer, while Vinay Kumar will receive the Madhavrao Scindia award for highest wicket-taker in Ranji matches, the BCCI media release said.

The role of a finisher is one of the most unforgiving jobs in all of cricket, for they are the wins remembered for wins and blamed for losses.
