India vs England | Rain predictions in Birmingham could leave India high and dry

India’s much-awaited Test series with England might get a dampening start on Wednesday with the Met department predicting rain to bring relief from the ongoing heatwave in Great Britain. It won’t be ideal conditions for Virat Kohli and co who have had a terrible history at that venue.

India had made special swing bowling conditions in Kolkata and Himachal Pradesh last year in order to acclimatize with South Africa’s swinging tracks, which hardly helped them. Now, with most players still not acclimatized to it, this time in England, the Rain Gods have now thrown a tougher challenge in their path.

While India were forced to shorten the four-day warm-up game to three owing to the unbearable heatwave in Chlemsford against Essex, they will now have the possibility of heavy clouds to endure. According to weather reports by Birminghammail.co.uk, “After weeks of sunshine and high temperatures, the Met Office has forecast HEAVY RAIN to fall over Birmingham. And despite numerous predictions of rain during the last week, this time the forecasters seem almost certain.”

While that forecast is for Sunday, AccuWeather states that Wednesday, August 1, is likely to be cloudy with thunderstorms also on the cards. India have never won in Edgbaston in their cricketing history with their last loss being by an innings and 242 runs. India would expect a complete washout in this case, because anything else and Virat Kohli and company are likely to be taken to the sword.

Sometimes, a moment can make a cricketer a hero or the villain in a flash. It would be blasphemous to say that Pankaj Singh would have reached dizzying heights had Ravindra Jadeja grabbed Alastair Cook’s catch in the slips, but it would certainly remain as one of the saddest moments of his career.
