26 seconds! The time Chris Dagnall and Kerala Blasters took to open the scoring and seal the fate of their match against North East, final score 4–1. Dagnall’s opener was also the fastest ever scored in ISL, 2 seconds faster than Mohammad Rafi’s (of Kerala again) goal earlier this season.
Credit must go to Blasters manager, Terry Phelan, who rested Rafi, Kerala’s leading scorer, and brought in Cavin Lobo. Lobo vindicated the decision with an assist and a goal to bag the Man of the Match award!
Cricket
IndvsSA: Drizzle. Super Sopper. Heavy Rain. Lunch. Drizzle. Rain. Day abandoned. End of match report.
In a quick response, BCCI tweeted to announce refunds to all the spectators. Kudos!
All-stars cricket: Sachin’s blasters finally showed their batting prowess to post 219, they were 130 at the 10 over mark! However, a Kallis/Sanga inspired run-chase helped Warne’s Warriors win the game and take the series 3-0.
Play of the day: Sehwag hums a tune and launches Pollock for a six!
Hockey: Asia Juniors Cup
In a nerve wracking game, India managed to hold on to win 5-4 against hosts Malaysia. Harmanpreet and Mandeep starred scoring a brace each. India play China next on Tuesday.
Tennis
Bopanna-Mergea won 6-4, 6-3 against top seeded Bryan brothers in their opening match of the ATP tour finals in London. Great win! They play next on Tuesday.
P.S: Only the Rain Gods could have pushed out cricket to the 3 position on a sports newsletter in India!
