Sania-Hingis enter semis in Guangzhou Open tennis

Top-seeded pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis cruised into the semifinals the WTA Guangzhou Open in Guangzhou, China – the pair’s first Tour event since winning the US Open last month

Mirza and Hingis, ranked one and two in the world in doubles, beat the German-Romanian pair of Anna-Lena Friendsam and Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-3 in 65 minutes in the quarterfinals after being given a bye in the opening round.

Mirza and Hingis will meet Julia Glushko (Israel) and Rebecca Peterson (Sweden) in the semifinals on Friday.

Young Indian Ankita Raina and her Chinese partner Ying Zang lost 6-4, 6-1 to the Serbian pair of Jelena Jankovic and Aleksandra Krunic in the first round.
