French tennis federation to build Rafael Nadal's statue at Roland Garros

This month turned to be doubly delightful for Rafael Nadal as after winning a record 10th French Open title, he reclaimed the number one spot in the ATP rankings. To honour, the Spaniard's dominance at the Rolland Garros, FTA has decided to establish a statue at the stadium.

"We have, with Rafael Nadal, chosen a statute and the image that will represent it. We will now launch a contest to find the artist who will create the statue of Rafa, which will be opposite the entrance of the future Philippe Chatrier", Giudicelli said told tennisworld.

Nadal has won 98% of his matches that he has played on the clay courts of Roland Garros losing only twice in his career to Robin Soderling and Novak Djokovic in 2009 and 2015 respectively.

"It’s a feeling that’s impossible to describe", he said in June after winning his tenth title.

"For me the nerves and the adrenaline I feel when I play on this court is impossible to compare to another court. It is the most important event in my career, to win again here is impossible to describe," added Nadal.

Nadal will be chasing a third US Open title to go with those he won in 2010 and 2013 when the final Grand Slam of the season starts on Monday at Flushing Meadows. He’s seeded first ahead of Britain’s Andy Murray, with Wimbledon champion Roger Federer seeded third.
