The Indian cricket board (BCCI) felicitated recently retired great Virender Sehwag at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Thursday before the last Test match between India and South Africa. BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur presented the opening batsman with a trophy for his achievements.

Sehwag thanked everyone, from the BCCI to his first coach AN Sharma and Satish Sharma, who first picked him for Delhi U-19s.“I want to thank my father for allowing me to play the game of cricket and give me freedom to do whatever I wanted to. All my coaches, especially A.N. Sharma for making me the cricketer I am,” Sehwag said during the felicitation ceremony.

Sehwag was accompanied by his mother Krishna Sehwag, wife Aarti and his two sons Aryavir and Vedant during the ceremony at Kotla.

Sehwag also thanked the captains he played under. “I want to thank my first captain Ajay Jadeja and other captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble. I want to thank Sachin Tendulkar.”

Conspicuosly, there was no mention of MS Dhoni, who captained the Indian team to the 2011 World Cup trophy that Sehwag was part of.

Sehwag also thanked the fans for “making him Sehwag.”

The BCCI and DDCA also named two stands at Feroz Shah Kotla after Sehwag. The stands were named as Viru 319 End and Viru 309 End after the opener's two triple centuries.
