Sarfraz Khan’s quick fire 84 off 66 balls and MK Lomror’s four-wicket haul powered India U-19s to an 86-run victory against England U-19s in the opening match of the tri-nation U-19s tournament in Sri Lanka on Friday. In a rain curtailed match at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo, Indian colts registered 254/7 on the board before stifling the opposition to 159/9.

Brief Scores:India U-19 254/7 in 34 overs (Sarfraz Khan 84(66), Anmolpreet Singh 56(41), Ben Green 3/28) defeated England U-19 159/9 in 29 overs (Dan Lawrence 55(46), MK Lomror 4/10, KK Seth 2/17) by 86 runs (D/L method)

After being put into bat by the opposition, India suffered their first blow in the third over when HJ Rana was sent back to the pavilion by Hugh Bernard. Rishabh Pant followed suit in the next over as he was caught plumb by Ben Green.

Anmolpreet Singh then joined hands with Sarfaraz Khan to put up a much needed 126-run stand. After the departure of the duo, the middle-order along with the tail-enders helped India put up a respectable total of 254.

England opener Dan Lawrence was the sole contributor for his side, as he scored 55 off 46 balls, with the rest of the batsmen departing after a short stint at the other end. Opener Haseeb Hameed was sent packing in the sixth over when he edged a delivery from Kanishk Seth into the able hands of wicket-keeper Pant.

George Bartlett failed to convert his 21 off 19 balls into a big score, as he was clean bowled by MK Lomror.  In the end, Ben Green remained unbeaten with a quick-fire twenty three as the tail folded one by one. Mahipal Lomror skittled through the tail-enders as he bagged four wickets at the expense of 10 runs.

As the allotted 29 overs came to a close, England remained at 159/9 to grant India an 86-run victory in their opening outing. Indian colts will next face hosts Sri Lanka tomorrow.
