India and West Indies to complete abandoned 2014 tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are edging closer to an agreement to complete West Indies’ tour of India, which was controversially abandoned in 2014.

According to a statement released by the WICB, the West Indies will host India in the Caribbean in 2016. However, “the agreement is subject to the WICB and the Players Association giving a joint commitment to complete, at a later date, the tour which prematurely ended in October 2014,” said the media release.

“Cricket remained the centrepiece of our discussion and we are happy to be at this juncture,” said ­WICB President Dave Cameron following discussion with the BCCI President Shashank Manohar.

The West Indies had abandoned their 2014 India tour midway after the fourth ODI in Dharmasala due to disputes between the players and the Board on player contracts. The team was scheduled to play five ODIs, one Twenty20 and three Tests.

After the abandoning of the tour, the BCCI had initially said that they would pursue a claim for $42 million in compensation from the cash-strapped WICB.
