The Indian team started the preparations under Rahul Dravid's guidance for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held next year with a convincing victory over Bangladesh in the tri-series opener. Having won the toss, India chose to bat, but managed to score only 158 runs in less than 46 overs. Washington Sundar and Zeeshan Ansari were the top-scorers for the Boys in Blue with 34 runs, while right arm off-spinner Mehedi Hasan picked up three wickets for Bangladesh.

Chasing a target of 159, Bangladesh was rocked by Avesh Khan's fiery spell- 4 wickets for 4 runs. Apart from Shafiul Hayet, who scored 26 runs, no one from the Bangladesh team was able to stand up to the Indian bowling. Zeeshan Ansari finished off the tail-enders to round off a very good match for the U-19s.
