Ravichandran Ashwin’s five-wicket haul and Ravindra Jadeja’s 4/33 helped India bundle out South Africa for a record total of 79 in the morning session of the second day of the third Test at Nagpur. India aput up a first innings lead of 136 runs before playing out four overs to go into lunch at 7 for no-loss.

Brief scores: South Africa 79 in 33.1 overs (Duminy 35, Ashwin 5/32, Jadeja 4/33) ; India 215 in 78.2 overs (Vijay 40, Jadeja 34, Saha 32, Harmer 4/78, Morkel 3/35) and 7/0 in 4 overs

If the two South African wickets that fell on the first day was a trailer, then India's spinners surely put on a show at Jamtha in the morning session of second day. Ashwin started the day’s play by bowling four consecutive balls outside off-stump to Dean Elgar. With the trap set, Ashwin knocked back Elgar on the fifth ball with an in-ducker, which he dragged back to the stumps.

Ashwin removed Amla in his next over as South Africa were reduced to 12/4. The Proteas captain went for a sweep outside off-stump and the ball hit his shoulders and the swing of the bat lobbed the ball onto Rahane at first slip. AB de Villiers was unlucky to fall to a short length delivery of Jadeja which popped from the pitch. The ball took a leading edge and it spooned up back to the bowler.

With the Proteas struggling at 12/5, du Plessis and JP Duminy got together and tried to hit their way out of trouble. Du Plessis, however, played a forgettable shot off Jadeja, which saw his stumps knocked back. The reaction on the face of Duminy and Rabada at the non-striker's end signified the disarray of the Proteas batting.

In Ashwin’s next over, Duminy was given two lives with Pujara and captain Kohli dropping catches. Dane Vilas on the other end was also given another chance, with Saha missing a stumping behind the stumps. Vilas’s stay at the crease came to an end soon, when Jadeja cleaned him up with a brilliant delivery. The South Africans continued their walk back into the dressing room, with Ashwin picking up Harmer with a carrom ball down leg.

Duminy, the topscorer for the Proteas with 35 runs, was given his marching orders by Amit Mishra, when the leggie trapped the left-hander before the wicket. Ashwin completed his fourteenth five-wicket haul of his career by finishing the Proteas innings with Morkel’s wicket.

Indian openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan comfortably played out four overs to go in to lunch with a 143-run lead.
