The Indian cricket board’s (BCCI) all-powerful Working Committee is expected to decide on the fate of the two suspended Indian Premier League franchises as well as PepsiCo’s plea to withdraw as IPL sponsor when it meets in Mumbai on Sunday under new president, Shashank Manohar.

Originally to have been held on August 28, the previous meeting had been adjourned sine die to seek the Supreme Court’s opinion on whether N Srinivasan can attend BCCI meetings as an authorised representative of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had been suspended in the wake of Justice RM Lodha committee's report on the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. However, media reports on Friday and Saturday suggested that BCCI members may not push for termination of the two franchises at Sunday’s reconvened meeting.

The IPL Working Group had also previously suggested fresh bidding for two new teams to make it an eight-team competition, mandatory from the perspective of broadcasters and sponsors. It had also been suggested that after CSK and RR complete their suspension period, they be re-inducted into the cash-rich league to make it a 10-team affair.

The date for the BCCI’s annual general meeting is also expected to be finalised in the meeting.
