Sehwag to play in Tendulkar’s All Star T20 series
Virender Sehwag will be part of the high-profile All Star Twenty20 series, promoted by cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne, to be played in the United States. The three matches will be played on November 7 in New York, November 11 in Houston and November 14 in Los Angeles.
“Warm welcome to my friend & a batsman with his distinct style! @virendersehwag joins us at @T20AllStars,” Tendulkar tweeted.
Sehwag, who announced his international and IPL retirement last week, is playing in his final domestic season as captain for Haryana, where he is set to miss the Ranji Trophy matches against Assam starting November 7 and Odisha from November 15
“Every match he is part of this team is huge for this team. Every interaction with him benefits the players. We are looking at him mentoring the players and our objective is achieved by his presence around the squad,” PTI news agency quoted Haryana Cricket Association secretary Anirudh Chaudhary as saying.
“Once a player has announced his international retirement, anything he contributes at Ranji level we should gleefully accept,” Chaudhary added.
Sehwag will leave for the US after playing Haryana's next Ranji Trophy match against Bengal at Lahli which starts on October 30. Glenn McGrath, Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Brian Lara and Wasim Akram are among the players featuring in the series for retired cricketers.
