BCCI apologises to PCB for Sena protests
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has apologised to its Pakistan counterpart for the protests by Shiv Sena activists that forced the cancellation of their meeting in Mumbai earlier this month. Describing the Sena's protest as a “condemnable act”, the BCCI wrote to PCB in a letter that they were sorry about the incident, Pakistan media has reported.
The meeting between BCCI president Shashank Manohar and his Pakistan counterpart Shahryar Khan last week was cancelled following protests by hundreds of Sena activists who barged into the BCCI headquarters protesting against India having cricketing ties with Pakistan.
Relations between the neighbours have been tense after the collapse of planned peace talks between India and Pakistan in August this year. The two countries last played each other in a bilateral ODI series hosted by India, in 2012-13.
The FTP MoU, signed last year between the two boards, had commitments from both to play six series between 2015 and 2023 beginning with the first hosted by Pakistan in the UAE in December.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad told the media that PCB should boycott next year’s World Twenty20 in India on security reasons for Pakistan players.
Bangladesh to host Asia Cup
Bangladesh will host the Asia Cup in February and March next year despite security fears that prompted Australia to cancel a tour, a top BCB cricket official has said.
It was decided at the Asian Cricket Council meeting in Singapore last week that Bangladesh will hold the tournament, to be played in the Twenty20 format for the first time, just before the ICC World T20 in India.
