Ganguly named CAB president

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has been named as the new chief of Cricket Association of Bengal by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee following her meeting with senior Association officials.

Ganguly will succeed Jagmohan Dalmiya as president after the senior official passed away on September 20 due to a cardiac arrest. Dalmiya’s son, Abhishek, will succeed Ganguly as secretary.

The appointments need to be ratified by CAB’s governing body.

Ganguly, CAB joint secretary from 2014, has been involved in administrative roles with the Indian cricket board. He was a member of the three-man advisory committee along with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, and is part of the Indian Premier League council.

His CAB elevation lends a new twist to the race for the Board of Cricket Control inIndia (BCCI) president position,that fell vacant after Dalmiya's demise as he will control votes of CAB and National Cricket Club, two of the six in East Zone.
