Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has leaped to the defence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni following India's third loss in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. According to Dada, the bowlers are to be blamed for the defeat, instead of questioning Dhoni's leadership or contribution to the team.

Dhoni's captaincy has come under a lot of criticism, specially his ability to get the best out of his bowlers, after India failed to defend another creditable score. With Virat Kohli waiting in the wings, a lot of people have called for a change at the helm in the shorter format of the game as well.

However, Dhoni has received support from Sourav Ganguly, who believes that the wicket-keeper batsman is still leading his team with “utmost passion and dedication”.

“Another series loss..another chance to blame the skipper! What more can you ask from him? This guy wants to bat up the order but he can't because there is not enough experience when it comes to the lower order...so he continues as a finisher..continues doing the dirty job...and still manages it brilliantly! Gets a quickfire 23...then keeps the wickets exceedingly well...leads his side with utmost passion and dedication! Desperately tries everything he could to make his country win the game....But what happens? Another failure by the bowlers..another chance to blame the skipper! They say being MSD is tough...they say the truth,” Ganguly wrote on his Instagram account.

Earlier, Suresh Raina had also expressed his disappointment at the cricket-statesman being asked to retire despite his contributions to Indian cricket.

The role of a finisher is one of the most unforgiving jobs in all of cricket, for they are the wins remembered for wins and blamed for losses. Nurul Hasan found himself in a similar situation in Sylhet on Thursday with the odds skewed massively against him, only to end up achieving the unfathomable.
