Following Nike’s decision over a contract renewal, BCCI has invited fresh tender for apparel contract for the Indian national team starting October 1. On the other hand, BCCI during its Apex council meeting also gave an update on shifting the National Cricket Academy to a new place in Bengaluru.

This comes in weeks after the American multinational Nike refused a contract extension to their existing apparel contract with the BCCI for the Indian national team. During the BCCI Apex Council on Friday, the officials spoke on various issues in Indian cricket, including apparel sponsorship, which is one of the significant sources of revenue for the cricketing board.

After a long spell of 14 years, Nike’s association with the Indian team might come to an end, after their four-year deal worth 370 crores ends in September. However, the reports added that the American multinational can submit a fresh bid for a new apparel contract with the cricketing board.

“The Nike’s was a four-year deal for 370 crore with a royalty of 30 crore. Now they will not be submitting any fresh proposal for the new period which starts October 1. The Apex Council has decided that RFP (Request for Proposal) will be floated. Nike obviously can submit a fresh bid,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

On the other hand, they also discussed the future of NCA in Bengaluru, with a reported new construction plan submitted to the Karnataka government’s relevant department. However, owing to the lockdown in the country, no work has yet started regarding the new site.

“Once situation stabilises, the new construction plan will be submitted to the state government’s relevant department and then the work will start,” the official said.
