Government has to decide on the future of Indo-Pak cricketing ties: Sachin
Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar has said that the relationship between India and Pakistan needs to improve, but insisted that the future of cricketing ties between these two neighboring nations is for the respective governments to decide.
"These are issues which the two countries' government needs to decide," Tendulkar was quoted as saying by Zee news.
Recently officials of PCB traveled to India with hopes of holding talks regarding a bilateral series between India and Pakistan in UAE in December, but talks broke down midway after the BCCI offices were stormedby Shiv Sena protestors. The last bilateral series between the two countries was played in December 2012 and January 2013 when Pakistan toured India for three ODIs and two T20s.
Sachin, who is currently in New York for the opening game of the Cricket All-Stars Series, feels that cricket can be a way to improve the relationship between Indian and Pakistan. He said, "Also I think that the relations (between India and Pakistan) need to improve. If the governments feel that this (cricket) is the ideal way to move forward and the (cricket) boards (feel so), I do not see any reason why we should not play.
"(But) if they (governments) feel it is inappropriate then we have to abide by them".
