Sanjoy Sen: We are not dependent on Norde or Glen

Speaking to the media, Sen spoke about how important an away win can be in a tournament like this. “Definitely I’m happy with the result. When you go in to the break 2-1 down, but make a comeback scoring two goals, and winning the match, that too an away match, with the home and away system happening for the first time in Indian football in the Federation Cup, it is big advantage for us. We were very eager to win this game, and the boys showed that this team isn’t dependent on one or two individuals.

“In Kolkata, they always say if Sony (Norde) is not playing, Mohun Bagan isn’t winning. Football is a team game, and we showed how we are not dependent on individuals. Even Cornell Glenn was injured and unable to play. Definitely they are good players, add quality and thrust to our team. But from the beginning I have been telling my players that football is a team game, and today was a team victory,” added Sen.

Jeje was among the goals yet again, and Sen believes that the newly crowned FPAI Indian Player of the Year’s form is helping the team.

“It’s a striker’s duty to score goals, and sometimes it doesn’t quite happen. All over the world, when the top player is not getting the goals, it’s a problem. But it’s good for the team and for Jeje,” he said.

When asked about his plans and preparations for the second leg, Sen said he will take his time to decide.

“We have to travel a lot, so maybe a couple of changes may be required. Let me go back to the hotel, go back to Kolkata, and then we have a light training session the day after. Then we will see and decide,” said the Bagan coach.
