“Football is a man's game” : Suárez hits back at Filipe Lius
After Filipe Luis put up an Instagram post of his injury from Luis Suarez's tackle, the Barcelona star has hit back at him saying football is “a man's game”. This is the second instance when an opponent has given Suarez the Instagram treatment, the first being by Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour.
Biting and stamping were games reserved for the backyard and teenagers, but Luis Suarez has made it his mission to introduce his childhood skills to the football field. After having brought his earlier biting tendencies in control, Suarez appears to have found a new avenue for his aggression. The Barcelona star clashed with Atletico defender Luis in the 83rd minute of Wednesday's 1-1 draw between Barca and Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou. Suarez was cautioned after the event, but the stud mark he left on Luis' foot has been captured for times by the defender.
Soon after the match ended, Luis posted a photo on his Instagram account of a right foot, marked by the attacker's stud marks, and said: "At least he didn't touch me."
Asked about the defender's decision to publish the photo, Suarez retorted saying, "Football is for men," reported ESPN.
"Everything stays on the pitch. If everyone uploaded what happens [on the pitch to social media accounts] the game would become a circus."
Suarez denied any malicious intent and said, "I stepped on him without meaning to. We met in the tunnel and I gave him my hand to shake.
"I took [the Instagram post] as funny. If you were to show off every blow, every little thing that happens on the pitch…"
However, this is not the first time he has come under criticism online – last year, Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour, who bore the brunt of Suarez's tackle during their 1-1 draw against the Catalan giants, also posted a pic on Instagram.
