Jeremy Jacquet Rejects Arsenal Move to Stay at Rennes

Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet has rejected a transfer to Arsenal, opting to stay and develop at his current club. The 21-year-old, under contract until 2029, impressed last season after returning from a loan spell. Arsenal had targeted Jacquet amid uncertainty over Jakub Kiwior’s future, but the Frenchman remains committed to Rennes’ long-term project.

For the latest in Arsenal’s summer transfer activity, the Gunners have faced a setback as Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet has rejected a move to North London. Despite Arsenal’s efforts to reinforce their backline amid concerns over Jakub Kiwior’s future, Jacquet has opted to stay with Rennes to continue his development. The 21-year-old France U21 international recently signed a contract extension that runs until June 2029 and has stated he is "very happy" to grow with the club.

Arsenal have already spent around £200 million this summer on six signings, including centre-back Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia for £13 million. Still, sporting director Andrea Berta remains eager to bring in more players, particularly Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and a second central defender.

Jacquet, who spent part of last season on loan at Clermont, returned to Rennes and made 11 Ligue 1 appearances, showcasing his versatility by playing in both three- and four-man defences, as well as covering at full-back. Rennes are firmly against letting him leave and consider him a key part of their future plans. Their sporting director, Loic Desire, praised Jacquet’s physical strength, confidence, and deep roots in the club’s academy structure as key reasons for keeping him.
