India set to host 12-nation Kabaddi World Cup in October

After the tremendous success of the PKL, India are set to host the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in October, the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has announced. 12 nations are set to participate in it, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Australia, Poland, Korea, Japan, USA, Kenya, UK, and Canada.

“The International Kabaddi Federation is immensely proud that Kabaddi is growing in popularity so fast and is all set to breakthrough on a global stage with the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup scheduled in India,” said Janardan Singh Gehlot, President, International Kabaddi Federation, reported PTI.

“We are committed to nurturing the sport across the globe. The phenomenal success of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi and the participation of players from around the world is a testament to kabaddi’s promise as a global sport. We are delighted and proud to have India host 12 countries for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.”

Exact dates for the World Cup are yet to be announced, but Star Sports are set to be the official broadcaster. All the matches will also be available on Hotstar.

“Kabaddi is growing in popularity in Korea and several other countries, especially due to the phenomenal Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League that is being telecast across the world by Star Sports,” Yeong Hak Hoon, Secretary General of IKF, told PTI.
