World’s top-ranked pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis qualified for the semifinals of the WTA Finals in Singapore on Friday after topping the four-team red group with a clean slate. The Indo-Swiss pair thumped fourth-seeded Timea Babos (Hungary) and Kristina Mladenovic (France) 6-4, 7-5.

Mirza and Hingis are slated to meet Chan sisters of Chinese Taipei – Hao-Ching and Yung-Jan – in the semifinals. Incidentally, Mirza had won the prestigious year-ender last year partnering Zimbabwe’s Cara Black.

Mirza and Hingis extended their unbeaten winning streak to 20 matches following their 91-minute victory as they broke their opponents in the 10th game to clinch the opening set.

The Indo-Swiss duo, who have won eight titles including two grand slams since joining forces in March this year, broke their opponents in the 11th game before serving out for the match. The pair is also riding a four-tournament winning streak.
