Sehwag offered dust-filled seats; DDCA messes up first day
Former great Virender Sehwag and his family were reportedly offered dust-filled seats at the end of the felicitation ceremony conducted by the BCCI on Thursday at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has taken offence to the indiscretion, the last in a series of mess-ups by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
Anurag Thakur, who accompanied Sehwag and his family to the seats, is reported to have taken DDCA Officials to task, The Hindu reported. The BCCI Secretary, himself dusted the chair for Sehwag’s mother as per the report.
DDCA reportedly stayed away from Sehwag’s felicitation ceremony and have claimed that they do not have anything to do with the ceremony. Anurag Thakur is reportedly upset with DDCA’s mismanagement of the ceremony and is believed to have said that the DDCA did not raise any confidence of hosting an International match, The Hindu further reported.
Anurag Thakur had warned DDCA earlier that it may lose the right to host the Twenty20 World Cup matches next year. "We have to wait and watch till November 17 if Delhi is ready or not for the Test. If Delhi fails to stage the Test, the venue may also lose the World T20 matches," Thakur told the Times of India on November 20.
Thakur is reported to have raised doubts again at DDCA’s ability to host the Twenty20 World Cup matches after the mismanagement of Sehwag’s feliciatation ceremony, The Hindu reported. However, as per a report by ESPNCricinfo on November 24, the BCCI has already informed the ICC that Delhi was now in the clear to host matches.
Justice Mukul Mudgal, who is overseeing DDCA’s conduct of the fourth Test between India and South Africa on behalf of the Delhi High Court, is reported to have purchased tickets for his guests and himself.
Justice Mudgal’s proposal of letting school children watch the India versus South Africa Test match for free is reported to have won the heart of many at Kotla, The Hindu reported. A total of 8,250 students are reported have attended the first day of the Test match on Thursday.
Justice Mudgal reportedly went around the Kotla stadium to see the needs of the spectator, The Hindu reported. Justice Mudgal will submit the report to the High Court after the completion of the Test match.
