Defending champs Karnataka lose to Dhoni's Jharkhand in Hazare trophy

Defending champions Karnataka were handed a 47-run defeat by Jharkhand in their fourth league game at the Alur Cricket Stadium, Bangalore on Tuesday. Jharkhand, put to bat first, put up a total of 216/8 in 50 overs, while Vinay Kumar’s team was bundled out for a paltry 169 in 45 overs.

Openers Ishank Jaggi and Anand Singh provided a good start for their team as they put up a 74-run stand before Karun Nair got the first wicket for his side. M S Dhoni, still struggling to get into the groove, was clean bowled by Karun for one run. Saurabh Tiwary and Kumar Deobrat then got together to guide Jharkhand to a respectable total. Deobrat remained unbeaten at 47. Suchith J performed for the defending champions with figures of 4/35.

Karnataka, however, had a debacle with the bat as their top order could not manage a good start and were reduced to 52-3 by the 12th over. K L Rahul, on the other end, stuck around to score 42 but was stumped out by Dhoni. Suchith yet again came to rescue the home team with a fighting 34, but could not help them cross the line. Shahbaz Nadeem and Sonu Kumar Singh scalped 3 wickets each to help Jharkhand defeat Karnataka by 47 runs.
