The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deferred the decision on possible sanctions on off spinner Ajit Chandila and Mumbai batsman Hiken Shah to January 5 after a disciplinary committee meeting at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai on Thursday.

Ajit Chandila along with former Rajasthan Royals teammates S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Amit Singh, was found guilty of alleged spot-fixing charges by a BCCI probe on September 2013. Mumbai batsman Hiken Shah was suspended by the board in July this year after he was found guilty of making illegal approaches to a fellow player during IPL 2015.

Both Chandila and Hiken Shah appeared in person before the committee on Thursday and the duo was given time till January 4, 2016 to file a written response to the charges against them.

"The acquittal by the trial court was a big turning point for me. The questions were the same as the ones Delhi Police asked me. This is a new committee and I had to give them answers. I gave them the same answers I gave the court,” said Chandila after the disciplinary hearing.

"I have been waiting to be heard by the new committee. I have full faith in the new BCCI committee and God that justice will be done to me. I'm confident this committee will give me a fair trial. I have answered all their questions. Let's see what happens next," added Chandila, reported ESPNcricinfo.

The new disciplinary committee includes BCCI President Shashank Manohar, Niranjan Shah and Jyotiraditya Scindia and the board's Anti-Corruption Unit head Ravi Sawani.

S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan were handed life-time bans by the BCCI in September 2013, and Chandila’s case remained pending as Ravi Sawani did not have the opportunity to question him before the submission of the report.

The committee also decided to issue a notice to former Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf to respond to the charges against him. The former Pakistan umpire was alleged to have placed bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
