Indian ODI skipper MS Dhoni has responded to the criticism he had faced from MCA vice-president Dilip Vengsarkar regarding his selection in the ODI squad despite not playing a game for over a month. The 35-year-old has said that he has been training and keeping himself in shape in Ranchi.

Earlier in the week, former chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar had questioned MS Dhoni's selection in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against England despite the Indian captain not playing a single competitive game for over a month, Vengsarkar exclaimed that he found it strange and ironical that the Ranchi lad was still in contention.

“Dhoni has retired from Test cricket. He also doesn’t play Ranji games. So how does he keep himself match-fit. One needs to play regularly to stay match-fit. It’s ironical that Dhoni isn’t doing this,” Vengsarkar had said.

However, Dhoni, who was recently spotted at Yuvraj Singh’s grand wedding reception in New Delhi, has said that he has been working out in the gym to keep himself in shape for the limited overs matches against England.

"I've been training and gymming in Ranchi. Keeping myself in shape (for the ODIs and the T20Is against England)," Dhoni said while speaking to The Telegraph.

The first ODI of the three-match series will start on January 15 at Pune, while the first of the three T20Is against England will be held at the Green Park in Kanpur on January 26.
