ICC's final rankings for the year
Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson end the year as the only batsmen to remain in the top-10 of the ICC’s player rankings across three formats through the year. In the ICC’s team rankings, India, Australia, and New Zealand finish at the top of the Test, ODI, and T20I rankings respectively.
Pakistan has dropped down to No.3 in the Test rankings with Australia replacing them at the second spot. The visitors, who are currently trailing Australia 0-2 in the Test series, could drop down further in the new year if they lose the final Test match at Sydney.
India, who are currently third in the ODI rankings, have an opportunity of closing the gap at the top if they beat England convincingly in the upcoming three-match ODI series.
In the T20 format, they will have a similar opportunity to reduce the gap between them and New Zealand, who are at the top and 5 rating points ahead, when they take on England in the three-match T20I series in January.
In the individual rankings, Virat Kohli ended the year as the only batsman to feature in the top-2 of the ICC’s rankings in all the three formats. He still has some catching up to do in the Test rankings though with Steve Smith get a 62 rating points-lead at the top. In bowling, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, and Imran Tahir continue their domination in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is respectively. Ravindra Jadeja in Test, Akshar Patel in ODIs, and Jasprit Bumrah in T20s are the other Indians present in the top-10 of the rankings.
