CSK will never be the same again: Andy Bichel
Former Australian bowler and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Andy Bichel expressed his disappointment about the suspension of the franchise from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and said that the team will never be the same again after losing the core players.
In an interview to Cricbuzz, Bichel said that the suspension of the franchise is extremely disappointing, and he hopes CSK will come back after two years to the IPL.
“Oh, it's very sad. Very sad. Something we've worked so hard for. And the management have been absolutely fantastic. It's been a great franchise to work for. All the players in the competition wanted to play for Chennai. A lot of them did. Obviously, you had the Indian captain there in MS Dhoni. Stephen Fleming had a good rapport across the tournament as well.
"And the owners, from Kasi, obviously Sir as well, what they've done for Chennai and the Chennai Super Kings, has been outstanding in the way they've conducted themselves. It's sad that it's all broken down. Let's hope it can come back but it'll never be the same. And that's probably the saddest part about the whole scenario that's unfolded,” Bichel was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The bowling coach also shared the secret behind the success of Chennai in maintaining a champion side, which made the last four of the competition in all eight seasons.
“It's getting the right people to fit the roles. And if that person is not quite right, then it's having someone to replace him. We went with a spin attitude in Chennai. We had hot conditions in Chennai - so spin was the best option there. We've seen fast bowlers bowl four overs there and just about break down. Because of the heat that can happen, especially in the day games. And then marrying up the batsmen, making sure we had enough left handers and right handers, all these things come into it. Brendon McCullum coming into the team last year was good for us, because we needed that person up front when we lost Murali Vijay.
“It's just having those replacements and making sure we have the right power. Albie Morkel, the role he played lower down the order, coming in and getting 14 off 5 balls or whatever, he did that regularly. Dwayne Bravo's done that for us. It's having that right combination of players over the years. Someone up front swinging the ball - we had Ben Hilfenhaus, we had Doug Bollinger. We were always making sure we had that. It takes a little bit of hard work behind the scenes, from Stephen Fleming and the management at CSK,” Bichel said.

He also said that he is looking forward to the upcoming season of IPL and is hoping to be part of some franchise for the ninth edition.
“Nothing's been finalized. Obviously a few texts and a few resumes. Making sure that if there's an opportunity, [I'm considered for it]...I'm still hoping. You can only put your name forward and hope that you make that final interview,” Bichel told Cricbuzz.
