Injury scare for MS Dhoni; Parthiv Patel called in as back up

India's first match in the Asia Cup T20 is on February 24 against Bangladesh, and Dhoni is likely to miss the encounter. With no other wicket-keeper in the squad, the BCCI selection committee called in Parthiv Patel as a back-up to the squad.

Parthiv Patel, who captained the Gujarat cricket team to the 2015 Vijay Hazare Trophy title in December, last played for India in 2012 against Sri Lanka in Brisbane. In a not so happy outing, Parthiv made four runs from 7 balls in the match against Sri Lanka at Brisbane, which India lost by 51 runs. 

The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has been in good form in the domestic tournament and also scored a century against India A in the Deodhar Trophy last month.

Parthiv scored 295 runs in 8 matches at an average of 36.87 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while he made 337 runs in nine matches at an average of 42.12 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
