With the 2016 edition around the corner, the Asia Cup tournament is all set to embrace T20 as the playing format for the first time in its history. The tournament has been played 12 times till date, and here is a collation of all the important statistics from the history of the Asia Cup.

Right from the most runs scored to the Most Wickets taken, from the highest team totals to the lowest team totals and much more, here’s a complete highlight-reel of all the necessary statistics that a Cricket fan might need to know before the 13th edition kicks off next week.

Batsmen with Most Runs scored in Asia Cup

With India’s Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik being the only current players on the Top-10 list of the most runs scored in Asia Cup history, it will take a mammoth effort from either of the batsman to shake up the standings.  In the 4 or 5 matches that either of the batsman will play, realistically you can see Virat Kohli climbing upto the the 4 position as he needs 129 runs to beat former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga at 741 runs. Shoaib Malik himself can do the same as he needs 167 runs to make it happen.

Bowlers with Most Wickets in Asia Cup

Sri Lankan captain and highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, Lasith Malinga is likely to surpass three others, including fellow countrymen Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan to become the highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup history. Taking into consideration his previous records, it is safe to say that Malinga will jump from his current mark of 24-wickets and overhaul the 30-wickets mark to reach the top of the standings by the end of the tournament.

Highest Individual Scores in Asia Cup

Virat Kohli’s 183 runs in 148 balls against Pakistan at Dhaka puts him at numbero uno spot in the Highest Individual scorers list. He appears again at the 4 spot, for his 136 against Bangladesh and should Virat Kohli manage to score over 125 runs in an innings this year, he will replace Sanath Jayasuriya as the only batsman to appear in the list three times.

Most Catches in Asia Cup

Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (7) and the Indian contention of Virat Kohli (7) and Suresh Raina (8) might not pass Mahela Jayawardene’s tally of 15 catches but they can certainly try and make it into the Top-4 in the list Muttiah Muralitharan sitting there currently with 10 catches.

Most Matches played in Asia Cup

Should Pakistan manage to make it to the finals, veteran Shahid Afridi (23) will join Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene as the joint-number one in the most matches played in Asia Cup history list. Dilshan will be rising up in the table too if he manages to stay in the squad for all the Sri Lankan matches in the tournament.

Highest Team Totals in Asia Cup

Pakistan’s batting completely dominates the Highest Team total standings appearing five times in the Top-10 and also sitting safely at the top thanks to Shahid Afridi’s blazing 60-ball 124, which propelled their score to 385/7 against Bangladesh in 2010.

Lowest Team Totals in Asia Cup

Bangladesh has the dubious record of having 6 out of the 10 Lowest totals in Asia Cup history but given their recent rise in International Cricket, one does not expect them to add the tally.

Largest victories by runs in Asia Cup

Although Pakistan dominate the Largest victories in Asia Cup table appearing 5 times and Sri Lanka filling in with 4 places in the Top-10 the distinction of the largest win goes to India who absolutely decimated Hong Kong in 2008 thanks to centuries from Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni helping India win by a mammoth margin of 256 runs.
