According to media reports, the BCCI, Indian team management, and other government sources have denied the reports of an Indian cricketer being involved in a rape case in Harare. Media reports from Zimbabwe had suggested that an Indian cricketer was arrested in Harare for allegedly raping a woman.

The news report by New Zimbabwe, an African website, is false, media reports in India have said. The site alleged that an Indian cricket player currently on tour of Zimbabwe was arrested on Friday on charges of rape.  The site wrote “An Indian cricketer currently on tour Zimbabwe with the Asian country’s national team was on Friday arrested by police for allegedly raping a local woman.”

The site also  quoted Police spokesperson Charity Charamba as saying, “There are allegations of rape against an Indian national by a Zimbabwean woman. We have investigated and forwarded the case to the courts for determination and now we are waiting for the outcome. All I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday.”

It is also claimed that the victim might have been drugged before being abused by her attacker. But, reports have now come in saying that an ‘Indian’ was arrested and not a cricketer. According to ANI, the person involved has denied the charges and is ready to take the DNA test to prove his innocence.

The Indian national cricket team is currently on tour of Zimbabwe, where they whitewashed the hosts in the one-day series. They, however, lost the first T20I of the three-match T20 series by two runs.
