BCCI looks to change its name as part of image makeover

Speaking at the sidelines of the BCCI's Working Committee meeting yesterday, President Anurag Thakur appeared intent to carry forward the image rebuilding exercise begun by his predecessor Shashank Manohar–even if it has touched a marginally amusing level this time.

Thakur said, speaking about the proposed name change of the 88-year old organization, "Yes, I had put forward this idea in the meeting today.

“I think the word 'Control' should be replaced by 'Care'

"We want to do away with the word 'Control.' We want to care for our fans, players, coaches, selectors, administrators and all the other stakeholders who matter in cricket," reported ToI.

It appears the proposal evoked mixed reactions at the meeting, and the way forward would be known only in the course of time.

Thakur also talked about the future of pink ball cricket in India, what with reports that the Board has been approaching cricket bodies of teams visiting India over the next year for pink-ball Tests. The newly elected President advised caution in the matter–understandable given this is the biggest shift in Test cricket in recent memory.

Thakur said, "Let us wait for the players to decide on that (pink-ball cricket).

"Let us take the feedback during the upcoming Duleep Trophy. There have been experiments going on all over the world with the pink ball. We are not in a hurry. We want to take a decision once the BCCI is sure that they want to go with the pink ball," reported cricinfo.
