Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid on Friday said that M S Dhoni’s team have a good chance of getting into the semi-final of the World T20. Dravid also opined that the Indian team’s Test rankings are largely because of playing in the home conditions and the team should start winning overseas also.

The cricket legend paid a visit on Friday to one of the most impoverished slums of Mumbai to meet young people from the 'Laureus Sport for Good'-supported organisation, Magic Bus, operating in Mankhurd and took part in a street cricket session with the participants. After the session, the ‘Wall’ shared his views on Indian cricket and the upcoming World T20 in an exclusive interview to Laureus.

Dravid, who is a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, said that the Indian cricket team has a good chance of making it to the semi-final stage of the World T20.

“I think India would make the top four, but after that, it's just a question of who has a better day in the semi-final and final,” Dravid said.

The 43-year old, who coached the Indian U-19 team, felt that the Indian team has very good depth in their squad and are in good shape at the moment.

“For the Indian team, I think the good thing about this Indian team and this T20 World Cup is they have good all around depth at the moment. Players like Hardik Pandya and Pawan Negi, it just shows that they have got sort of batting right down to No. 8, 9.[…] This is a pretty formidable side at the moment and I think the all around ability of this team is what excites me,” the former Indian captain told Laureus.

When asked about the Indian cricket and its upcoming challenges, Dravid opined that the Indian team’s Test rankings are largely because of playing in the home conditions and they will face challenges when they travel abroad.

“Even in test cricket, India finds itself up there in the rankings and largely because they have had great results in home conditions. The next challenge, really for this team, is to start performing and get results overseas. But things are beginning to turn with the win in Sri Lanka, and hopefully that they can go beyond the subcontinent and produce those results,” opined Dravid.
