BCCI keen to know the names of cricketers in Mudgal report

The three-member panel, headed by retired Punjab and Haryana HC chief justice Mukul Mudgal submitted the list of 13 names after investigating the betting and spot-fixing scandal in the IPL. Only three out of the 13 names mentioned in the report have come out in the open and according to a report in the Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now keen on knowing the rest of the 10 names in the report.

"We want those names to come out. Why were those names not made public? It's, after all, a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Fans should know all the names which appeared in the Justice Mudgal's probe report," a BCCI official told TOI on Wednesday.

The report also says that the lawyers of the board will bring up this argument in the coming days in the Supreme Court. Back in 2014, when the names were submitted to the Supreme Court, the BCCI had taken an opposite stand, and pleaded to the apex court not to reveal the names.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Gopal Subramanium told the bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice FMI Kalifulla that the BCCI is doing public service, thus making it subject to the rule of law.

"The BCCI is not doing any business or trade but running an activity. It is subject to rule of law as it is discharging a public function. No one is above the law and BCCI is also subject matter of law," said Subramanium. Gopal Subramanium was appointed as amicus curiae by the apex court in the case to implement the Lodha committee recommendations.
