N Srinivasan is back, and with a bang: may become BCCI's ICC rep

Indian cricket has always been a game of snakes and ladders. Political and power maneuverings have seen powerful men reduced to puppets in a matter of months and compromise candidates going on to form fiefdoms of their own. N Srinivasan was the universal outcast just two years back after he overreached his powers holding the ICC (International Cricket Council) Chairman's post and the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President's post at the same time – however, when the spot-fixing scandal involving his son-in-law was exposed, opponents found the trump card to overthrow him.

Srinivasan was slowly moved out of both the posts albeit with other reasons in place and was earmarked for obscurity. However, the power duo who replaced him – Shashank Manohar and Anurag Thakur appear to be having their own tiffs of late.

Anurag Thakur, who became the BCCI President after Manohar relinquished it to become the ICC head, has found that working with his ex-boss has not been a pleasant experience. Manohar has been an impartial arbitrator at the world stage as he looks to clean up the sport but has found himself on the wrong side of the biggest cricket body in the world. It appears that the frictions have allowed a foot in the door back for a second innings for N Srinivasan.

The BCCI is set to propose N Srinivasan as its representative in the international body's powerful Board of Directors in place of Shashank Manohar, reported PTI. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body on Wednesday may see peeved members of the Board send Srinivasan in a move to counter the clout of Manohar at the ICC. The move comes after BCCI secretary and Srinivasan's one-time rival Ajay Shirke met with him in Chennai on September 4, reported PTI.

Manohar has been at the head of affairs as the ICC looks to put an end to the “bullies” - India, England and Australia – hogging the lion's share of revenues and making all the important decisions without widespread consensus. Manohar also appears to have crossed the BCCI with his move to introduce the two-tier Test system widely appreciated although not by the BCCI.
