Sreesanth not a huge fan of IPL anymore
Sreesanth, who has been banned for his alleged role in spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL, is no more a fan of the IPL but he revealed that he loves watching Test cricket and club games. The 35-year-old also admitted that he is busy with his own commitments but at the same time he is trying to stay fit.
It was in May 2013 that saw one of the darkest hours in IPL cricket as three cricketers S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila (playing for Rajasthan Royals) were held responsible for allegedly taking part in spot-fixing. The game reported was between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on May 15. And since then the three cricketers have been banned for life by the BCCI. Though S Sreesanth was found not guilty in 2015, the BCCI did not lift the fast bowler’s ban.
Representing three teams (Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Rajasthan Royals), Sreesanth played 44 games in the IPL and took 40 wickets. But after being banned, Sreesanth has lost interest in the IPL.
“I am (now) not a huge fan of IPL in particular but love to follow the Test matches. I love to watch club matches. I have not been following IPL matches and don't wish to watch all matches. I have lost interest and if time permits, will watch matches only involving my state players. Basically, I love to see my Kerala state cricketers doing well in the matches,” Sreesanth was quoted saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Sreesanth has tried very hard to make a comeback but all his attempts have failed. It was in September 2013 that the BCCI decided to impose a life ban on the Kerala fast bowler who has played 27 Test matches for India. The BCCI has also banned the pacer from using state facilities which are under the board’s control. They also denied him a NOC for playing cricket in Scotland in 2017.
“The ban slapped on me by the Indian cricket board is not the reason for losing interest in the IPL. Yes, I am sad but now we have to move on. They (the BCCI officials) are busy in their own and I am busy in my own work. I am being banned to practice at the international grounds controlled by the BCCI, but I practice at my own ground and I am happy with it,” the 35-year-old added.
Despite being kept out of action and banned from playing competitive cricket, Sreesanth is keeping himself fit and training hard.
“I remain very busy with my own commitments, my own work and schedules and spending quality time with the family. I do lot of yoga exercises, play badminton,” the former Kerala pacer said.
