Australian opener Cameron Bancroft has been signed by English cricket club Durham as their overseas player for the 2019 county season. The club confirmed the development on Friday stating that he would be available for the entire season and will be playing all the three formats.

Bancroft's inclusion has come up as a welcome change for Durham as it would boost their batting lineup with Kiwi cricketer Tom Latham being anticipated to miss out the 2019 season for his services for the Black Caps in the world cup. Though the extent of Cameron's contribution would be doubtful, Durham sounded confident about it.

"Cameron provides us with a very talented overseas signing who can bulk up our batting line up and help us compete for silverware. Cameron is a talented top order batsman and a great talent across all formats, he has the appetite and temperament for scoring big runs," said Durham head coach John Lewis.

“Tom Latham has done a great job for us over the past two seasons but we anticipate Tom being unavailable due to the World Cup in 2019, therefore we were delighted to be able to bring Cameron in,” the coach further added.

The 25-year-old is currently serving a nine-month ban for his involvement in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa earlier this year, and would be excited with the new stint.

“I am excited to join Durham for the 2019 county season. Having played at Emirates Riverside in 2017 I know what a great place it is to play cricket. With the Ashes and ODI World Cup both being played in the UK in 2019 it will be a huge summer of cricket. I am grateful for the opportunity and I can't wait to get over and make an impact with Durham," Bancroft further added.

Bancroft has 4910 runs to his name in 76 first-class matches while in List A, he has amassed 1224 in 41 games. He has played only eight test matches since he made his first international appearance against India in the third T20I in 2016.
