ICC World Cup 2019 | Rain likely to play spoilsport in India’s game against New Zealand
The Indian team’s training session was cancelled due to torrential showers and even the game against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in Nottingham is expected to have a similar fate. Both India and New Zealand are the only unbeaten teams at the World Cup so far and would look to go hard at each other.
The Indian team’s practice session was cancelled on June 12 due to heavy rain and the team’s third match against the in-form New Zealand is also expected to be marred by rain.
There are high chances of medium to heavy rainfall at Nottingham and it will not be a surprise if the match is entirely washed out or even if we are in for a shortened game.
The temperature is expected to be on the lower wide with the temperatures hovering around 10 to 12 degrees celsius.
Trent Bridge offers good bounce, coupled with the short boundaries, which usually makes it a batsman’s paradise. However, the rain and moisture may ensure that the pacers play a big role in today’s game. It is the same venue that the highest ever ODI score of 481 was recorded by England against Australia last year.
Three encounters in the ongoing World Cup have already been hit by rain. The game between West Indies and South Africa was abandoned after 7.3 overs whereas Sri Lanka’s games against Pakistan and Bangladesh were completely washed out.
