IND vs BAN | Pink ball very different from its red counterpart, affirms Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma, the man of the series in the India vs Bangladesh clash, shared his experience of playing with the pink ball and said that it's very different from the red ball. The bowler who bagged nine wickets in the match said that neither the ball nor the pitch provided any assistance.
India who waited four long years to play their first-ever D/N Test, since its introduction in 2015, wrapped up their first-ever encounter with the pink ball in under three days. The Indian pacers wreaked havoc through the Bangladesh batting line up as India bowled the visitors out twice in three days while the trio of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami shared all the 19 wickets of the opposition.
Ishant was the pick of the bowlers who picked up nine wickets in the match, which included a five-wicket haul in the first innings while Umesh bagged a fifer in the second innings to take his tally of wickets to 8 in the match.
Talking to opener Rohit Sharma after the match, Ishant shared that pink ball is very different from the conventional red ball Tests are played with. He also shared that neither the pink cherry nor the pitch, with 6 mm of grass on it, didn’t provide any assistance.
"This is very different (from the red ball). On the first day, the ball was not swinging at all. We then told each other that neither the ball nor the wicket is such that we will get any swing easily. We have to hit the deck hard on length, especially during the day," Ishant told Rohit in a video posted by the BCCI.
The lanky pacer from Delhi was adjudged the Man of the Match for his nine wickets in the match. He was also declared the Man of the Series for his series-haul of 12 wickets at an average of 10.75.
